Shingle-era basements
Deep, low and full: old furniture, boxes from three moves ago, a furnace that was replaced years back. Cleared out and swept.

Brown-shingle houses, deep basements and stair paths instead of driveways.
Berkeley has some of the oldest housing stock in the Bay Area, and a lot of it is built of brown shingle over a deep basement. A house that is a hundred years old has had a century to accumulate things underneath it, and the basement is usually where they are.
The hills are their own problem. Streets wind, driveways are steep enough to worry a loaded truck, and in some parts of town the only way to a front door is one of the Berkeley paths — a public stairway between two houses. We have carried furniture down those, and it goes faster when we know to expect them.
Then there is the university rhythm. When the semester ends, student rentals in South Berkeley and around the avenues turn over within a week, and the pavements fill up with what did not fit in the car. Landlords call us for that in May and again in August.
Four kinds of load, and between them they cover almost everything we are called for here.
Deep, low and full: old furniture, boxes from three moves ago, a furnace that was replaced years back. Cleared out and swept.
The other storage space in an old house, usually reached by a pull-down ladder. We take it down piece by piece and leave the stair intact.
Mattresses, desks, futons and bags left at the kerb when a lease ends. One load clears a whole house-share.
Appliances, exercise equipment, broken bikes, garden furniture and the odd thing in the garage nobody can name.
Flatland and hillside, from the avenues near the water up to the paths that climb behind the university.
Not on the list? The list is the parts we get asked for most, not the parts we cover. Ring and we will tell you in one sentence.
Three steps. None of them are on you.
Tell us what you've got and where it is. A couch, a garage, a whole floor. It all counts.

You get the price before we lift anything. If it works for you, we start right there.

We load it, sweep up, and leave. You get the space back the same day you called.

Stairs and tight access are the job, not an extra. This is what Berkeley usually throws at us.
Some Berkeley addresses are reachable only on foot. Tell us which and we will plan the crew size and the route before the truck leaves Fremont.
The truck may have to stand further down and the load carried to it. That is judged when we arrive and quoted accordingly.
Original woodwork, narrow doorways and low basement beams are all normal. Nothing is forced through a gap it does not fit.
Berkeley is roughly 29 miles from the yard in Fremont — the far end of our patch, and still inside the same-day service we promise. Call early and we will tell you honestly what the traffic will allow.
What people ask us before they book, in this city.
Roughly 35 miles from the yard, up the 880 and across. Same day is realistic when you call in the morning; if we are already committed we will give you the next slot rather than leave you guessing.
Yes, and May and August are when it happens. A house-share's worth of furniture, mattresses and bags usually goes in a single load, which keeps it to a single price.
In most cases yes — we carry the load out to wherever the truck can legally stand. Say so when you call, because it changes how many people we send.
No. The estimate is free and it happens on site, standing next to the pile. You hear the number before anything is lifted, and there is no deposit and no call-out fee.
Tap to call. Tell us what you've got. It's gone today.
