Walk-up flats
A sofa, a bed and a wardrobe out of a top-floor flat: down the stairs, slow at the landing, banister covered, nothing marked on the way past.

Victorian flats, three flights of stairs and nowhere obvious to put the truck. That is the job here, and we do it most days.
Most of San Francisco's housing was never built with a truck in mind. A Victorian or an Edwardian is two or three flats stacked on a narrow lot, and the garage beneath it — if there is one — is a single slot at street level, sized for a car from 1920. Anything that leaves that building leaves it by the stairs, or out through the back to a light well.
That is why the price is quoted on site rather than over the phone. Four flights and a tight turn at the landing is a different afternoon from a driveway out in the Sunset, and you should not be quoted for one and charged for the other. Nothing is lifted before you have heard the number.
The second San Francisco complication is where the truck stands. Residential permit parking, a hill steep enough that the wheels need chocking, a street the bin lorry only goes down one way. Tell us the cross street when you call and we will plan the stop around it.
Four kinds of load, and between them they cover almost everything we are called for here.

The original street-level slot, filled to the ceiling since the last move. We empty it to the back wall and sweep it before we go.
Mattresses, bed frames and a mountain of boxes from a flat that has just turned over. It is the most common call we get in this city.
Bicycles that were never going to be fixed, a chest freezer in the hallway, broken furniture, and paint or solvent that cannot travel with us.
Inner and outer, north and south — the row houses, the hills, the flats and the warehouse conversions. If your street is on this list we have probably stood on it.
Not on the list? The list is the parts we get asked for most, not the parts we cover. Ring and we will tell you in one sentence.
Three steps. None of them are on you.
Tell us what you've got and where it is. A couch, a garage, a whole floor. It all counts.

You get the price before we lift anything. If it works for you, we start right there.

We load it, sweep up, and leave. You get the space back the same day you called.

Stairs and tight access are the job, not an extra. This is what San Francisco usually throws at us.
Third-floor walk-ups, basement storage behind the garage, a garden flat down the back steps — none of that is an extra charge. It is the job.
We work around permit zones and hills. Give us the cross street and something to look for — the colour of the door, the number above it — and we will find you.
Blankets on the banister, lifting straps for the awkward pieces, and a walkthrough before anything moves so you know what is going and what is staying.
San Francisco is roughly 30 miles from the yard in Fremont — the far end of our patch, and still inside the same-day service we promise. Call early and we will tell you honestly what the traffic will allow.
What people ask us before they book, in this city.
Usually, yes. It is roughly 30 miles from the yard in Fremont — up the 880 and the 101, or across the San Mateo Bridge depending on the time of day. Call in the morning and the space is normally clear by the evening. If the day is already full we will tell you so on the phone instead of booking you and not turning up.
Yes. Stairs are the normal working condition in this city rather than a special case. What helps is knowing before we arrive: which floor, whether the staircase turns, and whether there is a wider route out the back.
Neither stops us, but both are worth mentioning when you call. We only need the truck alongside the building long enough to load it, so a white zone, a driveway or a loading bay nearby is usually enough.
The load — how much room it takes up in the truck — not the miles and not the minutes. You hear the number while standing next to the pile, and if it does not suit you we leave and there is nothing to pay.
Tap to call. Tell us what you've got. It's gone today.
